If...A Mind-Bending New Way of Looking at Big Ideas and Numbers by David J. Smith @djsmapping

This mind-blowing book breaks down big ideas about the world into smaller examples, so kids and adults can understand the facts better.  Two of our favourite topics are the world's food supply and the world's riches.  The book explains where the world's food is produced using a loaf of bread with 25 slices.  The most food, 11 slices, is produced in Asia and the least food is produced in Oceania, 1/4 of a slice.  The book also explains how much of this food each area eats.  Asia eats 13 1/2 slices - 2 1/2 more than they produce!  Did you know all the world's money totals about 223 trillion dollars? That's a lot of money! This book explains how this money is divided among the world using a pile of 100 coins.  It's shocking that the richest 1% of the world's population has 40 of the coins. The poorest 50% of the population share just one coin!  This book really helps you understand important things about the world because it makes the information simpler.  We recommend this book to kids who like to learn about the world.
